“Money and mental health problems can be a marriage made in hell. We’re here to change that.”
Martin Lewis CBE – Chair and Founder
Our strategy, 2025-30
At Money and Mental Health, we’re working for a world in which the vicious cycle of money and mental health problems is broken. Our new strategy sets out how we’ll work towards that mission in the coming five years.
We want to build on the progress we’ve already made, and to keep pushing for real change for people affected by financial difficulties and mental health problems.
The strategy has been shaped by our Research Community of ‘experts by experience’, who will continue to be at the heart of everything we do.
Since our launch in 2016 we have:

“As somebody who’s faced mental health problems I want my voice to be part of the solution, I can do that through the Money and Mental Health Research Community.”

Let’s end the Council Tax Trap
Up to two million people with mental health problems in the UK have fallen into a ‘Council tax trap’ — missing one payment that triggers increasingly aggressive demands from councils to repay rapidly escalating amounts of money.
This needs to stop. We’re calling on the government to end the Council Tax Trap — help us by signing our petition.
We want the government to make it easier for people to get help from loved ones with Universal Credit.
